Unwinding of the Mind

I don’t know about you but I have always greatly admired the workings of the mind, have been fascinated by its complexity, its function, by its power. I have a secret little obsession with neuroscience as well as metaphysics, and believe that your thoughts, in leading your actions (unlike simply the ‘law of attraction’), are powerful enough to change your life.. Furthermore the potential in every human is limitless, that this also stems from the abilities of the mind.

Tonight, imagine realising something else. Your mind actually controls you. Your mind is intelligent but it is not yours. It is of your past, it is of your parents, or your teachers or whoever or whatever has taught and conditioned you. It is a social product.

Much of the time you cannot actually ‘control’ your thoughts given the mind owns you, you don’t own it. Your mind can be deceptive, it can be convincing, it will often be completely bias, derived from your past experiences. Your mind is cunning, it can be detrimental as well as instrumental to your livelihood. It’s like the mind has a mind of its own!

What if you can tap into your higher consciousness, beyond your thinking mind? Be present in awareness but not controlled by thoughts. Would the ability to somehow observe your thoughts, without creating another thinking mind, be beneficial?

Interestingly, I read that we are born as pure consciousness and that chatter and force-feeding from the mind are our imprisonments. What? The mind has trapped us rather than set us free? I’d always maintained that the mind is our greatest tool, our own secret weapon, to set ourselves free.

Now this conflicts with my whole ‘mind over matter, mind creates success, thoughts becomes things’ philosophy. To be above your thoughts even?..

I find this concept compelling. Agree and disagree.

It’s just that my mind does not like the sound of this and wants to challenge it, haha.

Mind vs. Un-mind..
To think or not to think?
What do you think?

“A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes

“It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.” – Aristotle

“It is very nearly impossible to become an educated person in a country so distrustful of the independent mind.” – James Arthur Baldwin

“I would rather have a mind opened by wonder than one closed by belief.” -Gerry Spence
